As in previous IASFM conferences, in addition to the keynote speeches, IASFM members will have the opportunity to present their ongoing research in thematic panels, by proposing individual papers or submitting panel’s ideas. Moreover, as a novel initiative, IASFM19 will also include a marketplace of good practices in which innovative actions/projects (not necessarily connected to academia/research) that are can be showcased. Proposals are welcome for all 3: panels, papers and good practices (marketplace).
The deadline for submissions has passed.
Paper(s) submissions and submissions for the marketplace of good practices should not exceed 300 words, whereas panel submissions can be up to 750 words in total. On panel submissions, a brief description of the panel and the titles and abstracts of all presentations must be included.
Submissions should be in English, however, IASFM19 will accept submissions in Portuguese or Spanish from persons with lived forced migration experience, that feel more comfortable presenting in those languages. In the event of a panel submission in this context, all presentations are assumed to be in the same language. As English is the Conference’s main language and only a limited number of panels will take place in Portuguese or Spanish.
Presentations of papers and panels will be systematized into the following 5 axes: 1) Dialogues; 2) Regional Approaches; 3) Innovative Solutions, 4) Covid-19 and forced migration and 5) Current topics on forced migration. When submitting a proposal, please check the axis that you believe is most related to the topic being discussed.
In terms of topics, proposals may include but are not limited to the ones listed below:
- Regional dialogues;
- Interdisciplinary dialogues;
- Internormative dialogues;
- Regional contexts;
- Global South perspectives;
- Indigenous people(s) and migration;
- Gendered migration studies;
- Anti-racist migration studies;
- Vulnerable groups and forced migration;
- Decolonization of migration studies;
- New developments in forced migration studies;
- International categories of protection;
- Disaster and migration;
- Civil society engagement in forced migration; and
- International cooperation and forced migration.
In keeping with the conference aim of expanding inclusiveness, the selection of papers, panels, and proposals for the marketplace of good practices will be underpinned an academic quality threshold as well as by equality principles, focusing on balances in gender, geographical, race, other vulnerabilities and career stages representation. The participation of forced migrants is not only welcome but encouraged both in the academic components of IASFM19 and on the marketplace of good practices initiative.
The selection of proposals will be undertaken by the Organizing Committee and requests for review of decisions will be assessed by the Organizing Committee’s working group that established the call for paper, taking into consideration, namely, the originality of the topic vis-à-vis the conference program, representation of the authors and relevance for the main IASFM19 themes.

- Registration to IASFM19 (as presenter or attendee) will be available in January 2022
- IASFM19 will be held online from August 1st to 5th 2022
