IASFM is inviting contributions for an online exhibit on forced migration, featuring artefacts and artistic works relating to the themes addressed by the IASFM19 call for papers. This exhibit will be held during the IASFM19 conference between August 1 – 5, 2022.
Types of Contributions:
We invite you to share an ‘artefact’ which may be a photo, drawing, painting, video, audio file, or any other representation that can be featured online. Accepted art formats and disciplines include works on canvas, works on board, works on paper, applied arts, photography, digital art, video art, sculpture and installation. Each submission should be accompanied by a short description or abstract (less than 300 words) that explains its significance to you and how it connects to your understanding/perception of forced migration as lived experience.
The scope of the call is broad, highlighting both historical and current topics while engaging with a wide range of creative mediums, forms, and subject matter. IASFM encourages interdisciplinary approaches to examining the political, social, economic, cultural, aesthetic, and environmental stakes in the production and study of forced migration, past and present.
We particularly appreciate the contributions of people with lived experience of displacement.
Deadline for Submissions: April 15, 2022
Please submit an electronic copy of your artefact together with a short description or abstract (less than 300 words) by April 15, 2022. If your submission is a video file larger than 5MB, please include it as a link to a shared folder (i.e. Dropbox, Google Drive, Vimeo, etc.).
Who Can Apply?
- Living artists can apply.
- All the works exhibited will be reviewed for acceptance by the selection committee of the IASFM artistic contributions sub-committee.
- An artist can apply with up to three works and each work will be judged individually.
- Artists can apply at any stage of their career and from any country.
Social Media Copyright and Authorization
Permission for posting on social media and posting online and in any other form of the works of art presented is automatically granted, as long as it is not expressly denied in writing, by the artists. Please also note that images of works may be chosen and published on IASFM social media to promote the exhibition.
The Exhibit
Artefacts will be featured in a dedicated online exhibit space as part of the IASFM19 conference. Our exhibition will be launched online for the duration of the conference and archived on the IASFM website after the conference ends. Artwork may remain visible online in the archived exhibition upon permission of the artist.
