Over the last decade there has been increasing recognition of the importance of education throughout the lifecycle, including tertiary and higher education. Yet with just 24% of people who have been displaced (refugees) accessing secondary and 7% tertiary and higher education, the UN SDG4 goal of ‘lifelong learning opportunities for all’ remains elusive.

A central aim of this research cluster is to engage  with issues that connect education and forced displacement, working at the global level, to share ideas and knowledge produced in local contexts.

We will endeavour to achieve this through connecting and developing interdisciplinary relationships between the growing international body of people, institutions, networks, and organisations with expertise in research, activism, operational practice and / or lived experience of displacement, who seek to improve access and quality of education for people who encounter one or multiple disruptions in their lives that have led to their displacement.

Additionally, we seek to research and develop initiatives across higher education to expand teaching and share knowledge about the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary nature of forced displacement and the need for multi-agency / partner responses.
