This prize, awarded at each IASFM conference, recognizes exceptional service to IASFM, its members and/or the field of forced migration studies. Recipients of the award have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the mission of IASFM and have gone above and beyond their assigned responsibilities. The award is intended to publicly honour service work, which often takes place behind the scenes, but is essential to IASFM and its membership. Awardees will exemplify integrity in service and dedication to IASFM and institution- and community-building.

Nominations process
Eligibility
The nominee must be a member in good standing of IASFM at the time of the award or for the period of service acknowledged by the award. The minimum length of service is 3 years.
Nomination
A letter of nomination must be submitted and signed by at least 3 IASFM members. The letter should provide a rationale for the nomination, based on the description provided above, with concrete examples of exceptional service.
The letter and any supporting materials must be no longer than 5 pages. Please note that the reuse of materials used for other purposes (for example, tenure and promotion, other prize nominations) can only be included with the written permission of the author(s).
Unsuccessful nominations will be retained and reconsidered for the next competition. In such cases, a new nomination is not required; however, additional information from the nominator is welcome provided that it is submitted prior to the deadline.
Deadline: Will be set by the adjudicating committee, but cannot be less than 2 months prior to the conference at which the prize will be announced.
Adjudication process
An adjudicating committee will be nominated by the IASFM President and will include at least 3 members, who are not intending to submit nominations for the award.
The adjudicating committee will set the deadline at least 2 months prior to the conference and advertise the call for nominations through the IASFM listserv and membership list at least 3 months prior to the conference.
The adjudicating committee will treat all dossiers in confidence. They will evaluate nominations on the following criteria:
- Exceptional service above and beyond specified responsibilities
- Dedication to IASFM institution- and community-building
- Integrity in their service to IASFM
They will communicate their decision to the IASFM President at least 2 weeks before the conference.
The winner will be announced at the IASFM conference, and their name will subsequently be added to the IASFM website. They will receive a US $350 cash prize and life-time membership to IASFM.
